PAJARO AREA, Monterey County — October 29, 2026. The County of Monterey has formally documented plans to restrict parking by oversized vehicles on portions of Railroad Avenue and Allison Road in an unincorporated area near Pajaro. The original Notice of Exemption was posted on April 1, 2026, under California State Clearinghouse number 2026040008.
Which streets are covered?
According to county Public Works, the project describes signs on both sides of Railroad Avenue from Salinas Road to Allison Road and both sides of Allison Road from Railroad Avenue to San Juan Road. The planned signs would prohibit oversized vehicle parking at all times and authorize towing under the applicable rules.
Why is the county proposing restrictions?
The county states that oversized vehicles, trailers and campers have contributed to concerns about litter, dumping and health and safety along the affected rights-of-way. The notice explains that the proposed signs are intended to address those specific issues. This is the county’s stated justification, not proof that every parked camper has violated a law.
Are the signs installed today?
The April environmental notice does not establish a current installation date or enforcement start. Anyone parking in the area should obey posted signs and check with Monterey County Public Works about active restrictions. A statewide planning record does not replace the language visible on the roadway, nor does it give an individualized legal determination for a vehicle owner.
What the filing does not do
The plan concerns signs on existing or new metal posts within the public right-of-way. It does not describe a road widening, a new parking lot, a change in the location of the Pajaro River or any countywide prohibition affecting every road.
Where to request the latest status
Residents can provide the project location and SCH number when contacting Monterey County Public Works. The notice names Chad Alinio, Senior Civil Engineer, phone (831) 755-4937.
